Big Screen Breakdown: Meet the Spartans

Let's meet some idiots...

What was I thinking?
Duh! Obviously, I wasn't!

Did I laugh?
Yeah, I paid RM10.00 for this! I'm sure as heck gonna enjoy myself and laugh!

Very, very crude jokes...

What caught me as really funny?
The baby selecting scene where the narrator said:

"If it is Vietnamese, Brangelina gets first dibs..." :P

Number of times glanced at watch?
I can't count that high on my fingers!!!

LAMAN 2008

After all these years, I finally got to see LAMAN.

I was somewhat disappointed. I honestly felt that it could be much better.

I know it's funny for a first time visitor to claim something like that but there was a definite lack, which I simply cannot place...

Whatever, let's look at some pictures...

Ikebana arrangement at the indoor display cabin and they were guarded! You have no idea how much sneaking around I had to do to get this close (thank God for zoom lenses!).

A carpet of flowers at the Visit Korea display.

Just LooOOVVE this simple plastic cup arrangement!

Families turn out in full force to experience all a booth had to offer. Here, kids eagerly play with marbles and a congkak board while mother looks on.

This family's really cute. I noticed the mother and father taking turns to take pictures at every display they visit- here's a photo of Ibu and Kakak at the Sarawak longhouse :P

A landscape heavy with wooden elements, one of the more fascinating displays. The wood is presented in many forms- curving platforms, stepping 'stones', boardwalks...

Passing by one area, something caught my attention, 'What the hell is that musical sounding racket?!".
Here's the source! A hydraulic powered angklung-wooden xylophone contraption. There was a mic amplifying the sound through several strategically placed speakers which made it very noisy. If they'd just let it be and slowed the rhythm, it would have been quite soothing.

Tak puas sebenarnye... but it was getting late and I was on my own so I decided to vamoose. Hopefully things are better next year :P

Big Screen Breakdown: 27 Dresses

Let's take a snip at 27 Dresses...
Why the heck did I even consider watching it?
I could use a laugh and it was the only comedy playing at the time that I could stomach :P

What reeled me in?
Those blue eyes! That quirky smile! James Marsden, of course... :P

What kind of story is it?
An almost predictable one.

One could guess that the sister, who's hardly ever at home before, is back because she got fired. And it's a no brainer that the editor of a newspaper will run a story he/she considers sellable rather than wait for the writer to tone it down to a level more considerate to the subject of the story.

But it's a perfect movie for relaxing. Just go with the flow...

Which part stuck in my mind?
After Jane (Katherine Heigl) put up a slide show to discredit her sister at her sister's wedding reception rehearsal. Jane's best friend Casey (Judy Greer) berated her by asking if the 'right thing' that she did made her feel good.

Valid point. At times, the right thing may not be the best thing to do.

Number of times glanced at watch?
Twice, i think. It got a bit tedious at times...

Rhapsody in B(apuk) Major...

Cerita lama dari Pangkor...

Member aku perlu buat pengumuman penting sebaik selesai grand drag performance beliau. Berikut adalah ucapan beliau (tanpa teks):

"Selamat malam semua!

Okey, perhatian ye! Maaf ler guna suara jantan.

Tadi untuk performance tu key lain.

Ni pulak key...

...key...
(senyap berfikir seketika)

...KIMAK!"

Aku betul-betul gelak besar malam tuh! :))

Sampai bila-bila pun aku akan ingat!
(dengan kehendak Allah, of course)!

Big Screen Breakdown: Intro/Jumper

I LOVE movies!

Nothing too technical in that. I just love a good story. Failing that, I can always enjoy the cinematography or the action or the special effects etc... etc...

It's all about the experience (especially if you happen to be sitting in Gold Class while a really great movie is playing, but that is another story... ahem)!

These 'Big Screen Breakdown' columns are simply summaries of my take on the movies I've had the opportunity to watch since the beginning of 2008. They are only my opinion though so you readers are entitled to your own. Enjoy!

Let us take a peek at Jumper...

**********

What drew me?
The mind blowing trailer! Teleportation has always caught my fancy since there is a sort of evidence in the Holy Qur-aan that it is possible (re: Queen Balqis' throne).

Oh yeah, Hayden Christensen helped too!

What was surprising?
Hey, Hayden Christensen CAN act!

What was disappointing?
The story itself was a bit flat. Maybe if it weaved in more of the 'mother in dilemma between protecting her son and throttling his throat herself' element into the plot, the whole thing could be more intense. Bah! They've got Diane Lane (duh! great actress in the house!) playing the mother and they wasted it!

Number of times glanced at watch?
None. The continuous action, seamless special effects and beautiful cinematography was enough to keep my eyes glued on screen.

Sepi...

Bisikku pada bulan

Kembalikan temanku

kekasihku

syurgaku

Tanpa dia

malam menemaniku

Sepi memelukku

Bulan

jangan biar siang

Biar alam ini kelam

Biar ia sepi sepertiku
