Big Screen Breakdown: Dragonball Evolution and Race to Witch Mountain

Ooh... Looks gempak doesn't it?

Don't expect too much! There's only so much you can do when you attempt to compress above 20 volumes of manga into an hour 10 minute flick.

The story is simple like the manga but lacks character development, which is the manga's biggest strength. Even the manga has some surprises in terms of story.

Nothing groundbreaking about the CG. It's only the thrill of seeing things in the manga, such as Bulma's capsule bike, being brought to life.

I feel that the minor fight scenes and lesser skirmishes (examples, Goku vs Gohan, Goku vs school bullies) held more interest than the main battle between Goku and Piccolo.

Not boring but not attention-rivetting either...

For those of you old enough (like me!) to remember the above Disney feature where Tia and Tony attempted to escape to Witch Mountain, here's the remake!

The story has been modernised of course. Still sappy at times (it's a Disney! what did you expect?) but, to me, is still way more engaging than Dragonball.

Casting Dwayne Johnson as a less than ordinary cab driver was a good choice and makes their escape more plausible. His acting is quite good, especially if you compare him with Arnie Schwatzisname...

Even though the basic story was similar, but enough changes were made that it did not trigger any nostalgic responses throughout the movie. It was like watching something new.

Not that great but really worth my money...

Suatu kisah hujung minggu...

Macam-macam plan aku hujung minggu yang lepas tau?

Kena hadir seminar kat sini hari Sabtu dan Ahad...

Lobi nyer cantik, mewah...

Masuk jer nampak banyak-banyak tiang bermotifkan songket. Tempat ni dipanggil 'Songket Lounge'.

Lepas Jumaat, sambut Ben kat Puduraya. Petang tu dia janji jumpa member dia, Sham, kat Suria... Plan nak gi Jalan TAR survey kain (untuk baju Raya ni, gigih tak gigih?) :P

Malangnyer ujan so mostly lepak kat Kinokuniya (aih... beli manga dengan 'buku tak perlu' lagi) dan lepas Maghrib makan kat food court. Tukar plan gi Jalan TAR tengahari esoknyer...

 

Pagi buta dah kena dengar orang membebel... lebih malang pabila 2 sesi bebelan paling awal mendatar bak lullabye... time rehat 30 minit, orang sibuk melantak, aku sibuk cari port tido!

Lepas rehat tu menarik lar skit speaker tu ceramah. Berminat gak nak catat satu dua point yang dirasakan boleh dipakai nanti...

Lepas Zohor, temankan Ben dan Sham ke SOGO dan Jalan TAR. Setelah menggempur sejumlah kedai, dapat gak kain yang diorang hajatkan kat Harison's...

Balik lewat petang dekat kul 7.00 gak! Rehat jap, merasa gi berenang jap. Opps! Takde gambo renang ye... kalau korang nak sangat tengok, gi Google image 'manitee' kat internet- lebih kurang jer dah rupa... :P

Siap mandi, teringin nak rasa makanan hotel... so bermulalah rentetan gambo-gambo tak bermakna buat korang...

Rezki baik lar... kebanyakan makanan buffet kat Taman Sari ni memang tasty! Variety of desserts dia tak hengat dunia! Puas makan!

Salad pun macam-macam pilihan, baik vege mahupun sauces!

The dishes, Asian fare selang seli dengan Western cuisine... Bole pilih untuk makan dengan nasik... Belah lagi satu ada Indian delicacies lak! Tapi lighting situ kureng so aku maleh buang film (film kaedahnyer???)...

Sempat amik gambor ayam tandoori tapi tak sempat merasa sebab dah kenyang dan diorang nak tutup dah (dok melantak dari dekat kul 9.00 sampai nak 10.30!)...

Tengah pusing-pusing amik gambo dalam hotel tu, terserempak akak yang terer main piano ni! Besh dia main... lagu yang mula-mula tu tak tau lagu ape tapi lepas tu dia main lagu 'Anakku Sazali'...

Ade live band gak malam tu... Ni baru 2nd time (betul lar!) tengok local band perform kat mana-mana hotel lounge yang penah kita pegi.

Yang 1st kat Sheraton Perdana Langkawi, Amylea dengan bapak dia perform just before dia masuk AF. Biasa Filipin jer...

Ahad, lepas hantar Ben ke Puduraya awal-awal pagi, sambung lagi seminar... Sampai ler kul 1.00 tengahari! Ni dia farewell lunch untuk kitorang...

Clockwise from ketam masak kari hijau Thai- ayam masak tomato, Chinese style beefsteak, sayur berkuah krim, fish in lobster sauce dan asparagus with scallops... Yummy! Jemput makan ye! :)

The cake- Only 2 reasons why we bought it: the fresh cream frosting and the fruits. We have to eat the rest since they came attached to those two things :P

 

The feast- Mee Raja from Seri Murni restaurant at SS2, PJ... 2 servings were enough to feed 3 of us!
