04/22

Day four and the doubts are setting in!

Bedtime :
11.30pm

Breakfast :
24g whey protein + quarter red apple + 1 egg + 1 tablespoon wheatgrass powder + 2 tablespoon olive oil (not on list) + 4oz water

Actually, I forgot to put in the apple and only realized because the shake tasted different :p No biggie, just chomped it up!

Lunch (late, 3.00pm) :
4 small chicken breast pieces spice marinated and fried + 3 small pieces of beef rendang + some cucumber mixed with carrot slices acar + some brinjal mixed with carrot dalca

What can I say? It was a wedding lunch and there's hardly any choice in the matter.

Exercise :
15 minutes brisk walk to personal music playlist

Dinner (8.15pm, 9.10pm) :
4 small pieces beef rendang + plate of cabbage fried + 5 honeyed macadamia nuts

Okay, there was some miscalculation on my part.
Had the vegetables and nuts first, then something came up and it took a while before I could resume :p

One of the rules is "No Snacking". Is this considered 'snacking'?

Detoxification :

20 minutes Epsom salt dip

Water was cool! Is it even possible for the toxins to drain out like this? :(

Feeling more normal now.
Still drinking water to get rid of hunger pangs.
Old habits are starting to seep in- felt drowsy near 11.00am despite the work I was doing so I napped until almost 1.00pm!
I know it's only the fourth day but these bulges, in places where I've never had any years ago, is starting to bother me greatly!

03/22

Third day, still okay!

Bedtime :
11.50pm

Yeaayyy! Managed to lights off before midnight.

Breakfast :
24g whey protein + quarter red apple + 1 egg + 1 heaped tablespoon wheatgrass powder (not on list) + 2 tablespoon olive oil (not on list) + 4oz water

A tad too much wheatgrass perhaps. Wonder if this taste is what cows enjoy when chewing cud?

Lunch (a bit late, 2.15pm) :
2 small chicken pieces, breast & wing fried + pile of stir fried bean sprouts + bit of mixed carrot slices & long beans fried

The carrots & beans were fried together with chicken liver, but not sure how chicken liver fits into the meal plan so only took the vegetables :p

Exercise :
30 minutes swim

Was aiming for an hour when the sky turned dark with a roll of thunder- mencicit berenang lompat keluar pool :p

Dinner (quite late, 9.00pm) :
Chili's Santa Fe Chicken Salad + extra grilled chicken

I overate at this meal :p And lots of tortilla strips! How much of carbohydrates is that?

Detoxification :

Skipped Epsom salt dip for today.

Handling it better.
Still present, a mild case of dry mouth & some thirst.
Now I know what Ma means when she says that she's already full but still not satisfied if rice was missing from the meal.

Am wondering if my regular dietary supplements:

1. 1 tablespoon hydrolysed rice & grains (alpha polysaccharide peptides)
2. 1 tablespoon Sidr honey
3. 1 tablespoon pomegranate extract

is impacting the meal plans in some way :( They're most likely carbohydrate loaded...

02/22

Second day, y'all!!!

Bedtime :
12.15am

Breakfast :
24g whey protein + quarter red apple + 1 egg + half tablespoon honey (not on list) + 2 tablespoon olive oil (not on list) + 4oz water

Still too sweet. Definitely loosing the honey. Where the heck does one by chia seed or flax seed?

1 medium chicken breast kurma + loads of stir fried bok choy

Skipping lunch today.

Exercise :

No walkies today.

Detoxification :

5 tablespoons Epsom salt to bath water + soak for 20 minutes

No hot water facility. Poured in a kettle-full of just boiled water but still chilly rather than the recommended "warm enough to sweat".
Sink hole plug's leaky so water level sank quite fast!
Tried a few creative gymnastic poses in order to keep most of my body soaked for the required period of time :p

Dinner (9.00pm) :
chicken soup with carrots + mixed vegetables pecal + 2 medium chicken breasts rendang

Lethargic day.
Ever present mild thirst.
First time failed to feel satisfied after a rather large dinner. Weird!

01/22

I'm trying out this lifestyle plan and will be recording how it goes here just for the heck of it!

Bedtime :
12.15am

THIS is TOUGH! Target was 11.00pm but habits die hard.

Breakfast :
24g whey protein + quarter red apple + 1 egg + 1 tablespoon honey (not on list) + 1 tablespoon olive oil (not on list) + 6oz water

Surprisingly tasty. Found it too sweet though. Maybe I will loose the honey.

Lunch (late, 3.00pm) :
2 small chicken breasts + shredded lettuce + cucumber slices + condiments (not on list)

Ordered out from colleague so had no choice in the timing.

Exercise :
20 minutes brisk walk to personal music playlist

Dinner (late, 10.00pm) :
tempe (not on list) + nangka vegetable (not on list) + cucumber slices + medium slice of parang fish

Another hard to negotiate timing. Dinner is usually after Pa returns from surau.

Detoxification :

No time for Epsom salt dip today.

Was overall bearable.
Ever present thirst despite drinking mug after mug of water to get rid of hunger pangs.
Feels like fasting when I'm actually not.
Almost snappish near dinner time- looks like I'm more sugar dependent than I thought...

Our Hope for the Future

I did something out of character last weekend- voluntarily helping out at a masjid sponsored event.
Maybe you would understand why from looking at the photos.

The event was dubbed SAMBA (Santai Bersama Belia) 1.0

The aim was to get more youths to 'hang out' more frequently at the masjid for all the right reasons.
While there, hopefully, they'll be able to fill the gaps in their knowledge and practice of our chosen Way of Life thereby improving themselves.

The name SAMBA actually alluded to the main draw of this activity, a friendly game at the indoor court, Samba de Futsal at Seksyen 51A just past Kampung Tunku.
"1.0" is a hope and a prayer that this will only be the beginning of more such events to come...

The ice-breaking session. I have no idea what this game is but it was seriously fun and sure broke the ice!

The main draw- a game of futsal at Samba.
This is one of those times when I feel the loss of my DSLR most acutely, all those lost moments and actions...

After a session of learning, there followed an "explorace" to gauge their current level of knowledge and how much they've managed to retain from the lessons.

And this was the other attraction, the meals provided. For dinner is Domino's Pizza! They even got a Magnum Gold ice-cream each later for supper!

One of our participants had to leave the program that evening to attend his grandfather's funeral. This lead to an impromptu class on solat janaazah, the prayer for the dead.

Qiyam al-lail, the night prayers. Getting them to wake up by 5.00 in the morning was tough. I felt proud of them, of the fact that they all made the effort to get up and join in.

Filling up their tanks with a light breakfast in anticipation of the grueling punishment to come.

A watered down session of bootcamp-style fitness workout by our very own certified trainer.
It looked highly unpleasant from where I stood, despite being seriously toned down!

Totally unrelated to the activities. This is the son of our siak (the keeper of the masjid).
I just thought the little devil happened to look very angelic here for once, haha!

The final session was to learn and refresh their knowledge of solat.
These kids and young men still have a long way to go, but it's a start.

I took off early as I had a prior obligation to attend to and was not present during the closing ceremony.

It was perhaps a good thing that I missed it. This event has got me all melancholic, especially thinking about the future of our Muslim community here.
I may just break down and cry.

But we shall pray daily for a new hope.
